6 Steps to Build the Perfect Golf Swing

So, you want to build the perfect golf swing? Many have tried this before you, and with practice and determination, many have succeeded. They need to study how professional golfers go about their swing and customize theirs according to their own abilities and preferences. The perfect golf swing is not only about imitation. It’s also about finding your range of motion, style, and self-confidence. It’s both a mental and physical mission. Building an outstanding golf swing is not difficult at all if you’re willing to put in the hours and follow the necessary steps.

1. Have a solid golf grip

As soon as you touch your golf club, make sure you hold it from the side and not from underneath. You need to set up the correct golf swing position before the swing starts, and the best way to do it is to have a correct grip of your golf club.

Your chin should be away from your chest to allow your left shoulder all the freedom it needs as it turns away from the target. While your head has to be still and your eyes should focus on the ball, your chin should be up at address! There’s no “keeping your head down” in golf. Keep your eye on the ball but do it proudly!

3. Watch out for rotation

If you’re searching for the path towards the perfect golf swing, you’ll see that all roads eventually lead to rotation. Proper rotation is key for a professional golf swing. When you learn about a consistent golf swing and the accuracy of golf shots, you unavoidably learn about shoulder turn and range of motion. You need to rotate your shoulders away from the target when performing the backswing and towards the target in the downswing.

Keep in mind there is no sliding involved in your shoulder turn. Avoid as much as possible to slide laterally when you swing. Lateral movements have no place in your backswing. You need to focus only on turning if you want a powerful swing and a clean strike. Yes, you’ll probably experience a bit of side-to-side movement but make sure you keep it to a minimum.

4. Master that backswing

As you’re getting closer to striking that ball, backswing comes into play and can make or break your swing. Always position your left knee inward, so that it is oriented towards the golf ball. You need to turn, for the shaft to turn through 90 degrees and reach a position perpendicular to a line formed by the tips of your toes. Make sure your right leg is flexed while you get the shaft into position by turning your body. The only job your right leg has now is to maintain the flex and let the body do the work. No swaying or sliding to the right is necessary!

Position your clubface in the direction of the target as you manifest your intention to strike the ball. As soon as you’re heading for the big finale, make sure the clubface is pointed behind you. There is absolutely no need to keep the clubface oriented towards the ball at all times. You shouldn’t focus all your energy on hitting straight! You just need to make sure your knees are flexed at address and while you turn back, and that your lower body is stable during the swing.

5. Find your balance for the big finale

A perfect golf swing requires a balanced finish. You need to swing through the impact area to the finish but you need to do it from a balanced position. For a balanced finish, engage the front side of your body and halt the momentum post-impact. Make sure you keep your left leg straight and allow your right knee to touch the left knee. Push off the ground with your lead foot to rotate back and get all your weight in your right heel.

Don’t slide the shaft outside your left leg! Instead, turn your left hip inside the shaft. Start your swing nice and easy and gradually build up speed as you turn through to the finish. Remember that the length of your shoulder turn may be important but it is not essential for the perfect swing. You don’t need to have the flexibility of a gymnast and expose yourself to a potential injury for a great swing. You just need to focus on the timing of your turn more than on the length of your rotation.

6. Have a few tricks up your sleeve
